Biofuel Engine Laboratory – LMB/UNICAMP
Principal researcher: Prof. Dr. Marco Lucio Bittencourt – DPM/FEM/UNICAMP
Objectives
The activities to be carried out in the research project will bring changes in the indicated performance of the engine, with increased bmep and maximum pressures. So, one of the objectives of this sub-theme should be checking if the current geometry of the engine components are considered capable of supporting the new dynamic loads. Thus, it is intended to conduct studies of structural integrity of the initial configuration of the engine. The concept of engine downsizing requires reduction of the mass of components for better vehicle efficiency. Thus, one should combine apparently antagonistic objectives such as reduced mass and increased dynamic loads. A second objective of this sub-theme is the study of new configurations for connecting rods and lightweight crankshafts, which will be simulated, prototyped and tested under fatigue.
Expected results
a) Evaluate the mechanical integrity of the base engine when the proposed changes are implemented.
b) Evaluate the torsional vibration of the crankshaft
c) Obtain optimized engine parts of the cranktrain from mass and weight viewpoint
d) Obtain prototypes of optimized components tested for fatigue.
